FAQ Answers
|
 |
May I bring my domesticated companion animal (dog, cat, ferret,
etc.)?
Absolutely you may! For the health and safety of the entire
populace, we do have a few companion animal rules.
 |
All pets, regardless of species,
temperament or nature must be kept leashed or crated and under your
direct, positive control at all times. There will be NO exceptions within
the event area.
|
 |
All pet owners must promptly and
completely clean up the visible waste of their pet. Again, there
will be NO exceptions. Please remember this is a working farm.
|
 |
Please remember that there will be a
number of unfamiliar sights, sounds, and people at any SCA event,
and your pet will need to be capable of safely interacting with the
rest of the populace and their companion animals. If your pet does
not play well with others, please consider leaving it at home.
|
 |
Please do not leave your pet unattended all day
long. August can be extremely warm, and it is important to check
regularly to ensure your pet's environment is not dangerously hot.
Additionally, if your pet has a potentially noisy cry or bark,
please consider that while you are gone, your "neighbors" may be
required to listen to your pet express it's loneliness, displeasure,
or other similarly loud opinion.
|
Please remember that we are an honor-bound society. We expect all
participants to take responsibility for their animals while
attending Autumn War. In the event that you unknowingly violate one
of the rules, an Event Steward Team member will issue you a warning. In
the event this rule is again violated, you will be ejected from the
site, immediately, and without a refund. We hope you can understand.

 |
What if I have a service
animal?
Service animals are, of course, welcome. Please note that
ALL of the same rules apply for service animals as for pets. Of course, service animals have a very
specific role to play for the people they assist, and we honor their
service. None of our site rules impact the intended role of a
service animal.
Please note, if you do need a service animal, you may also wish to
check in with the Event's Chirurgeon in Charge, as a courtesy, so that we
may better assist you.

What if
I have a problem related to the event site?
Please feel free to approach any
member of the Event Steward Team with any concerns you may have. We are
more than delighted to assist you with any need.
Please do NOT attempt to remove ropes, relocate biffies, redirect
roads, or
otherwise alter the site. Please contact a member of the
Event Steward Team and we will be happy to address your specific need or concern.
Event attendees caught altering the site will be ejected from the
event immediately and without a refund.
|
|
 |
What
if there is a problem with one or more biffies?
Biffies can present several extremely unpleasant and emergent
issues. Any member of the Event
Steward Team will be more than happy to
assist you with your concern as quickly as we are able.
Please do not attempt to relocate or otherwise alter the biffies.
Event attendees caught moving or otherwise altering the biffies will
be ejected from the event immediately and without a refund.
|
|
 |
How can I tell
who's on the Event Steward Team?
All members of the Event Steward Team on duty will be wearing a
bright blue and yellow baldric or favor and carrying or wearing a walkie-talkie.
If Gate is open, you may also wish to go there for assistance in
locating a member of the Event Steward Team.

What
are the Site Rules?
We're so glad you asked!
 |
Pets are welcome: rigorous waste
patrol required! Pets and service animals must be tethered or
leashed and under their human's physical control at all times, and all animal waste or damage is the sole
responsibility of the owner. Owners of animals that present a public
danger as determined by the Autocrat will be asked to
remove their pets from the site.
|
 |
Participants shall not violate any
state, federal or local laws, nor commit any nuisance or damage upon
the premises.
|
 |
You must remove your own garbage and
use the dumpster provided. If you leave your garbage in your
neighbor's camp, it will be assumed to be lost property and will be
returned to you.
|
 |
Please be mindful of the war field and
archery range. Stay out of harm's way and obey the marshals: they are there for your safety.
|
 |
Horses and equestrian activities will
be on site. Please take care not to startle horses and to stay a
safe distance away. Do not approach horses without rider/owner
permission.
|
 |
Camp fires are allowed in designated fire pits
or above ground braziers only. YOU MUST HAVE water buckets (with
actual water in them) and/or fire extinguishers available within 8
feet at all times when a fire is lit. Fires must be kept a minimum
of 18 inches above the ground. Do not leave fires unattended at any
time, for any length of time. Please ensure coals are completely
extinguished and dispose of them in an appropriate container. We do
not want to have to put out a dumpster fire.
If fires are left unattended you may be asked to leave site.
|
 |
Quiet hours begin at 2a.m., however RV's may
run their generators all night, if they wish. That said, absolutely
no electronically produced music is permitted if it can be heard
outside of your encampment.
|
 |
No RV Parking outside of the designated RV
parking area.
|
 |
There is absolutely no smoking permitted
except in your personal encampment. This will be STRICTLY enforced.
Additionally, throwing a cigarette or
cigarette butt on the ground anywhere on the event site is
grounds for IMMEDIATE expulsion from the site without a refund.
Please help us prevent fires by disposing of your cigarettes
properly.
|
 |
Please note: Society rules regarding children
have recently been updated. Parents, or Designated Adults, chosen by
the parent, who bring minors to an event must ensure that their
children's activities are compliant with SCA Laws, Policies and site
rules that require minors 12 and under to be within sight or sound
of a responsible parent/designated adult at all times.
Parents of children who are found to be in violation of this rule
will be warned and if they are in violation again they will be
ejected from the site without refund.

What is the
cut-off for Pre-Registration?
ACCEPS
Pre-registration opening and cut-off will be posted as soon as it
is available.
|
|
 |
Can I pay the
event fee with a credit card?
Absolutely! We will have a Pre-Registration option that will allow you to
pay with your credit card. Please note that we cannot accept credit
cards at the gate, so if you wish to pay by credit, you must
pre-register using the ACCEPS system. Please also note that the ACCEPS system does not accept
Canadian credit cards.
|
|
 |
What hours will gate be open?
Gate hours will be
posted as soon as they are available. |
 |
Is the site ADA Accessible?
Nix Ranch is a
beautiful facility and very well-suited to the needs of such a large
event. The biffies provided for the event will include handicapped biffies. However,
it is important to note that this is, above all, a working ranch and
we will be holding our war in, no kidding, an enormous hay field. The ground is not perfectly level,
or even close. Many of the
activities are very spread out, and RV parking, while closer than it
has been in past years and marvelously centrally located, is still
not on the Erics. If you
have any concerns or special needs, please feel free to contact the
Chirurgeon in Charge for this event. |
 |
Are vehicles
allowed in the camping area?
Because the site is
working ranch and we will be camping in what is a hay field when we are not using it as a medieval wonderland,
vehicle access to the camping area is restricted to loading and
unloading only. Of course, a reasonable time period will be allowed
for you to unload your possessions and set up camp. Once you are
finished, vehicles must be moved to the parking area. There will be
no exceptions.

Are there any special requirements for minors at Autumn War?
Those traveling with
Minors must present the proper waivers when they reach gate. Any
Minors not with their parents and/or legal guardians should make
sure that all forms have been signed by the legal guardians
and
notarized. You can download the
Minor
Waiver Form here, the
Medical Authorization Form here, and the
Equestrian Waiver here. If you have multiple children
in one family, you may use the
Family Minor Waiver Form in lieu of individual Minor Waiver
forms, however you MUST still fill out the
Medical
Authorization form for each child. The
Equestrian Waiver can be filled out for multiple children in one
family.
Please understand, if you fail to
provide the necessary, and properly filled out waivers for any minor
in your party, you will be turned away at gate and not allowed on
site. We apologize for any inconvenience
this may cause, but we hope you will all agree that the safety and
well-being of our children is just that important. If you have any
questions regarding the necessary paperwork for minors, you may
contact the Event Steward Team. Alternately, you may visit the SCA online at
www.sca.org. |
 |
I am
new to the SCA; what can I expect at an event?
The SCA welcomes
newcomers! And Autumn War is an excellent first event, as it is very
well-attended and there are lots of activities. We invite you to
read the
Newcomer's Guide to the SCA. Feel free to contact any member of
the Event Steward Team if you have any
questions or concerns; we are here to help! Our Barony's Chatelaine,
Edith de Chelched, is always happy to assist Newcomers with their
questions, as well. |
 |
What are all the waiver
forms?
Unfortunately, the
Modern world occasionally intrudes on our Medieval Playground. There
are several waivers that must be signed in order to attend Autumn
War. There is the
standard waiver which everyone must sign consenting to
participate in an SCA event. Blue card members have already signed
this waiver. There is an Equestrian Waiver
consenting to participate in an event where there will be horses.
This will be available at gate, however, if you are traveling with a
minor and you are not the legal guardian, you MUST arrive with this
form pre-signed for entry to the event.
Please remember that
our Medieval Playground is in the middle of a hay field with no
electricity, photocopiers, or even carbon paper. If you would like a
copy of the waivers you will be signing, please be sure to download
them prior to arriving on site. If you have read the waivers and you
cannot agree to the terms, unfortunately, we will not be seeing you
at Autumn War. We hope you can understand.

If I do not have any medieval garb, can I just wear my regular
clothing? We're sorry,
but no, you may not. The governing documents of the SCA state that
"Anyone may attend Society events provided he or she wears an
attempt at pre-17th century clothing, conforms to the provisions in
Corpora, and complies with any other requirements (such as site fees
or waivers) which may be imposed... All participants are expected to
behave as ladies or gentlemen." For this reason, please understand
that if you are not wearing garb, you will be asked to do so. Happily, however, we do have an event Gold Key
Officer who would be delighted to help you! Simply contact the
Event Steward Team, and they will put you in contact with her. |
